For a whole week we were able to experience the perfect combination of movement, relaxation and culture in the Indian Himalaya. The day already started in the morning with yoga in the open air – ideal for getting body and mind ready for the undertakings that lay ahead.
After that we explored the landscape around Leh: through valleys in Hemis National Park, over the 4,100 metre high Spangola Pass and into small mountain villages like Ully, where time seemed to stand still. Every step brought new views – endless mountain ranges, barren valleys, wide skies. Along the way we refuelled with packed lunches and let the special atmosphere of the region work on us.
Alongside the trekking stages we also dived into the culture of Ladakh: meditation in a temple, the visit to the Shanti Stupa with its panoramic view over Leh and the atmosphere in Spituk Monastery, which moved us deeply with its spirituality. A look at the traditional weaving craft of the region showed how alive Ladakhi culture still is today.
At the end of this week full of experiences we took home not only unforgettable memories, but also an inner calm and serenity that yoga and the Himalaya left behind in us.
