Laufschuhe richtig reinigen und pflegen

In order to answer a question we get asked frequently right at the beginning: running shoes have no business in the washing machine. Since most running shoes make use of synthetic fibres, special adhesive techniques and foams, it is important to proceed with caution. Washing them in the washing machine can attack these materials and in the worst case even destroy the shoe.

That is why it is best to care for your running shoes and clean them by hand.

  1. Letting them dry: after running you should always let your running shoes dry in a well-ventilated place. Avoid drying them in the vicinity of radiators or in direct sunlight, as this can damage the material. So that the shoes dry more quickly, you can put crumpled-up newspaper on the inside of the running shoe, since this absorbs the additional moisture.
  2. Cleaning: in order to remove dirt and mud from your running shoes, you can wipe them down with a soft brush or with a damp cloth. Avoid the use of aggressive cleaning agents, since these can damage the material.
  3. Removing the insoles: take the insoles out of the shoes, wipe them down with a sponge and let them dry separately. This helps to avoid unpleasant smells and to extend the lifespan of the shoes.
  4. Washing: if your running shoes are particularly dirty, you can wash them by hand. For this, use lukewarm water and a mild cleaning agent. Remove stubborn dirt with a brush and lukewarm water. After washing, let the shoes dry thoroughly before you wear them again.

Through regular care and cleaning the running shoes are not only upgraded visually, they also receive a longer lifespan.
